KeithKNOWS, Been There, Ate There!  Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft,  1745 Peachtree St, Atlanta 30309 tuktukatl.com (678) 539-6181 I finally got the opportunity to tantalize my taste buds for Thai food at Tuk Tuk, my friends were in town for my birthday so we decided to check it out.  The décor and furniture will take you on a journey to Thailand without leaving Atlanta, and the food doesn’t disappoint. I was not feeling too adventurous so I settled for my favorite Massaman Curry with brown rice, of course, it was flavorful, seasoned well, delicious. Now you know a brotha gotta have dessert(LOL), I had the old fashioned Thai Coconut Ice Cream, I rarely have ice cream, I enjoyed every bite. Tuk Tuk is a great spot for a date, family gathering, private event or any special occasion.

KeithKNOWS, Been There, Ate There, Flower Child, 3500 Around Lenox Drive, ste 207,  Atlanta 30326 (buckhead) https://www.iamaflowerchild.com/

There’s a new health conscious restaurant in town, across from Lenox, in the area known as “Shops Around Lenox” their motto, “Happy Food for a Happy World”.  “Flower Child” is its name, can you dig it? It’s the sister restaurant to another great restaurant, “True Food” which is at Lenox Mall.  The décor is modern and colorful,  the atmosphere trendy, the food tasty, and it’s very popular.

Flower Child offer healthy salads, soups, sandwiches, bowls, wraps, plates, the food is organic, local, something for everyone, vegetarian, vegans, yes, they have grass fed meats, naturally raised, no additives, non GMO, sustainable foods also.

I had the  “Mother Earth” bowl, finger lickin’ good, oh, let me tell what’s in the bowl, well… leafy greens, ancient grains, sweet potatoes, portabello mushrooms,, avocado…my mouth is watering already, I’m not done yet, cucumber, broccoli pesto, charred onions, red pepper, hemp seed, drizzle with a miso vinaigrette. (you can a protein, chicken, salmon, steak, tofu) oh by the way, the salad dressing are sugar and dairy free)

Spread a lil’ Peace, Love,  checkout Flower Child on your next buckhead visit, you’ll be glad you did.

Cinnaholic Bakery | Cinnamon Roll Dessert Shop

Cinnaholic Edgewood Bakery, 1230 Caroline St NE, Ste B-110, Atlanta   30307  http://www.cinnaholic.com/   Okay the wait is over, finally made it to “Cinnaholic” vegan cinnamon bun, I meant “rolls”, well, kinda sorta (LOL)  It’s a quaint space in the Edgewood Shopping Center off of Moreland Avenue.  Their products are dairy & lactose, egg, and cholesterol free. The rolls are displayed elegantly, so you can see exactly what you want to devour.  I had the Chocoberry cinnamon roll, a delicious glazed topped off with chocolate bites and fresh fruit.  Cinnaholic has a variety of flavors such as Gingersnap, Oreo cookies, Strawberry Jam, Macadamia Nut, Coconut, and many more.  You can have your cinnamon roll with Octane Coffee, teas, they also serve cookies and brownies.  I’m excited to go again and try another flavor, won’t you join me, on the sidewalk café, of course.

I feasted on the Pad Thai dish (stir fry) & my dining guest devoured the Pom Pom mushroom steak dish, both were excellent! You know I had to have dessert,  so I kept it simple,  Carrot cake,  OMG, moist, flavorful,  I wanna another slice.( Lol) Oh, I almost forgot,  we both had beetle juice (beets and ginger) I was pleasantly surprised,  it was delicious.  This is a great venue for a private event, a date, meeting, or just to enjoy good food in a fancy setting. Be sure to checkout their Sunday Brunch, I hear it’s a great way to sample some of the menu items.

KeithKNOWS, Been There, Ate There!   Lov’n it Live,  2796 East Point Street  East Point, Georgia 30344  404.765.9220 http://www.lovingitlive.com/  Livin’ and Lovin’ the Good Food Life!   It’s Small Business Saturday, so my fellow YELP elite member and I join forces to support local small businesses.  We had planned to venture to Medu bookstore at Greenbriar Mall, after supporting, Shrine Bookstore and Cultural Center on the West End.  On our way to Greenbriar, we wanted some good and delicious to eat, so we stopped in East Point at “Lov’n It Live. Yes, Lov’n It Live…food prepared with tender loving care.  We both had the same appetizer, half avocado stuffed with nut meat, tomatoes, and bell peppers, presented elegantly, it was heavenly divine!  (smile) For my entree, I had the personal pan pizza scrumptious slice made with kamut bread, topped with spinach, tomato sauce, pine nut cheese, onions, chopped tomatoes, black olives, Sage crumbles and red bell peppers.  My dining guest had tacos, two crisp flaxseed-sun flower shells stuffed with sage crumbles, pine nut cheese, avocado, tomato. We both agreed our entrees were good, however, the appetizer was Da BOMB!  (LOL) Now keep in mind, all the food is fresh, organic, all natural, no additives or preservatives and prepared while you wait, so allow yourself, at least 20 minutes before the food arrives, so sip on some good ole’ Sorrel(Hibiscus flower, ginger and birch xylitol as a sweetener) The restaurant is cozy, casual and  quaint, white table linen on all the tables, tasteful artwork lined the walls, and good music. If you've being meaning to try a vegan or live food restaurant, Lov’n It Love, won’t disappoint.

I was eager to try the "Salmon Nicoise Salad", which is grilled salmon,  mixed greens, capers, red onions, grilled potatoes, string beans, sliced boiled eggs, cherry tomatoes, tossed in a lemon vinaigrette. Delish!  Of course, you know I must have dessert, so I tried the apple cinnamon torta(pie) topped with vanilla bean gelato.  This is a great spot for lunch, reasonably priced, and a great value. So the next time you're at Perimeter, let's do lunch.

“I just recently return from my hometown VA(Virginia) where the deers and foxes do play(LOL)..just teasing, now that I’ve gotten your attention. True food uses the freshest ingredients, meals fresh to order. The restaurant is eco-friendly with an open air atmosphere, quaint and comfortable.  Now let’s get to the real reason I’m at True Food, the food! I was starved, so I wanted something hearty, I tried the Turkey Lasagna(spinach, ricotta cheese, organic tomatoes)  and sipped on a coconut water mixer(coco nut water, pineapple, vanilla, OJ )now that’s real good food. For dessert, I had the chocolate flourless cake, you heard me, flourless cake…light, sweet, chocolatey, ”Da BOMB!(LOL)  This is a great restaurant for vegans, vegetarians, gluten free diets, there’s something for everyone. The prices are reasonable and the menu’s diverse with items such as, natural refreshments, entrees, salads, sandwiches, starters, wine, cocktails and beers. I was greeted with such warmth and friendliness, I knew I had to try a pie, well, I ate 2 apple pies and bought 2 additional pies to take home.(LOL)  What I  really like about Panbury’s, their pies are homemade fresh from the oven. While I tried the fruit pies, some of the guests from the scavenger hunt were more adventuresome, some tried the roasted lamb pie, spinach and feta, and green thai chicken curry.  The menu consists of variety of pies, beef, chicken, veggies, and sweets.  Panbury’s also has small bites, sides and extras such as a kale salad, potato salad, beverages and more. Lunch anyone? Let’s go to the curb market, I’ll treat!

Super-Food for Health and Happiness!

9586827479?profile=original

FANTASTIC FOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH HAPPINESS

A superfood is a type of food believed to have health benefits beyond those of more common foods due to specific phytonutrient content.

For instance, blueberries are considered a superfood or superfruit because they
contain significant amounts of antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese and dietary fiber which are believed to provide important health benefits.

The worlds 5 top superfoods:

Aloe Vera

The inner gel of the aloe vera leaf contains around 200 active compounds with over 75 nutrients. These include 20 minerals, 18 amino acids and 12 vitamins (even
vitamin B12 - one of the very few plant sources of this vitamin). Aloe vera has
anti-microbial properties fighting fungi and bacteria and contains
anti-inflammatory plant steroids and enzymes. Aloe vera also aids digestion and
elimination, boosts the immune system, and is incredibly healing and
beautifying for the skin, stimulating collagen production and moisturizing.

Goji Berries

Goji berries contain 500 times more vitamin C than oranges and more beta-carotene than carrots as well as 21 minerals, 18 amino acids, B vitamins (B1, B2 and B6) and
vitamin E, efficacious polysaccarides that excel at boosting the immune system
and other complex compounds that work their bio-magic in the body. Goji berries
are said to deter aging (eaten daily by the most well documented case of
longevity, Li Qing Yuen, who reportedly lived to the age of 252!), boost your
libido, lower cholesterol and improve vision. They also show anti-cancer
potential due to their content of germanium, a trace mineral known to induce
the production of the powerful anti-cancer agent interferon.

Chocolate (Cacao)

Pure chocolate contains over 300 compounds including psychoactives such as PEA (phenylethylamine) the 'love chemical' that releases dopamine in the
pleasure-centres of the brain and is said to induce feelings of excitement,
attraction, and euphoria, and the feel-good cannabinoid anandamide that mimics
the effects of marijuana and has recently been attributed to the 'runner's
high' experienced by athletes. Tryptophan is also known for its mood-enhancing
traits and increases levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Chocolate is an
aphrodisiac king, these chemicals no doubt contributing to such efficacy, and
contains 'nature's Viagra' arginine that enhances arousal and sensation in men
and women. Chocolate is also the highest antioxidant food on the planet,
exceeding blueberries, grapes and green tea, is exceptionally high in magnesium
(great for the heart and nervous system) and contains the beautifying mineral
sulphur. No wonder it has been called 'the food of the gods'! Note that these
properties are highest in raw cacao (pure and unrefined) which is leagues apart
from commercial chocolate products, containing none of the detriments such as
sugar, hydrogenated fats, milk, additives, agro-chemicals and solvents.

Chlorella (and Spirulina)

Water grown algae such as chlorella and spirulina have phenomenal nutritional value. Chlorella is 60% protein (19 amino acids including all eight essentials),
contains all the B vitamins (including B12 - a rare plant source), vitamins C
and E, a wealth of minerals and trace minerals, nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) and
chlorophyll (the highest quantities of these ever found in a natural source),
as well as essential fatty acids and a host of phytochemicals. Chlorella is
exceptionally good at detoxifying the body of pollutants such as heavy metals,
pesticides and PCB's. It also contains age-defying nucleic acids, is immune and
blood boosting and shown to be an effective aid aside cancer treatments.
Chlorella is the most popular supplement in Japan, classified by the government
as a 'functional food' and taken daily by over 7 million users. Aside a few
differing benefits, chlorella and spirulina have many parallel virtues. As a
note, grasses such as wheat and barley grass are also potent detoxifiers,
bursting with life and high in enzymes, chlorophyll, antioxidants and amino
acids.

Bee Pollen

Called the 'perfect food', bee pollen has an awesome constitution. Around 40% protein of a highly digestible form, these magical grains house 16 vitamins, 28
minerals, a host of enzymes, hormone precursors (that stimulate hormone
production), lecithin, fatty acids, nucleic acids and antioxidant
phytonutrients as well as yet identified constituents. Studies have revealed
antibiotic and cholesterol lowering abilities, immune system enhancement and
excellent skin healing traits. Pollen is also believed to be an anti aging
food, discovered by Dr. Tsitsin, chief biologist at the Longevity Institute in
Vladivostak, to be eaten daily by over 200 natives of Georgia (formerly the
Soviet Union) that were living upwards of 125 years of age! Try to get fresh or
unheated pollen to reap the benefits of all the enzymes and healthy
constituents. Other bee products such as honey and propolis are also potent
healing foods.

Try including some of the following "super foods" into your diet. Each food contains vitamins, nutrients and/or minerals that are believed to contain special properties for health, disease prevention and/or
longevity.

The OMNIS Foundation

cooking1.jpg?w=182&h=137The OMNIS Foundation has partnered with OMNIS Vegetarian Events for the promotion of physical health and prevention of abuse.  We offer education through the use of Cooking Therapy as well as a menu of healthy vegetarian meals to purchase.

About The OMNIS Foundation:
The OMNIS Foundation is a non-profit organization which provides education and support for the prevention and healing of abuse for the entire family.

Research from Child Welfare Information Gateway published in 2008 estimated 905,000 children were victims of child abuse or neglect in 2006 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2008). While physical injuries may or may not be immediately visible, abuse and neglect can have consequences for children, families, and society that last lifetimes, if not generations.

The impact of child abuse and neglect is often discussed in terms of physical, psychological, behavioral, and societal consequences. In reality, however, it is impossible to separate them completely. Physical consequences, such as damage to a child’s growing brain, can have psychological implications such as cognitive delays or emotional difficulties. Psychological problems often manifest as high-risk behaviors. Depression and anxiety, for example, may make a person more likely to smoke, abuse alcohol or illicit drugs, or overeat.  High-risk behaviors, in turn, can lead to long-term physical health problems such as sexually transmitted diseases, cancer, and obesity.

Although the OMNIS Foundation focuses on research to assist single parent homes and low-income families, we do not discriminate in membership or provisional services on the basis of race, religion, creed, national origin, disability, handicap, age, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status or any other basis prohibited by law.

How Can You Help The OMNIS Foundation?

Support families by giving a minimum donation of $10 to learn and practice positive, proactive communication.  We are in need of supplies for cooking activities.  Volunteers, motivational speakers and mentors are needed as well.

SOTTO SOTTO Inman Park  313 North Highland Avenue, Midtown  404-523-6678  Subdued style and authentic Italian ingredients whisper softly in Inman Park.    The kitchen generally eschews popular Americanizations for simple ingredients in authentic combinations. Tagliatelle with cream, ham and peas and spaghettini with tuna roe sing with understated, lovely flavors. Tortelli with roasted eggplant and walnuts, and an asparagus risotto likewise trade on a balance of rusticity and richness.  http://www.sottosottorestaurant.com

10 Healthiest Desserts

Sweetness is my Weakness

Parting with dessert is such sweet sorrow, "Anything can be part of a healthy diet when eaten in moderation." So, from low-cal options to portion-controlled indulgences…here’s 10 ways to safely satisfy your sweet tooth:

*Homemade chocolate pudding with low- or non-fat milk

*Meringues -- they're fat-free and low-cal, so having a few is ok.

*Biscotti (
oblong, thick, brittle cookies designed to be dipped in coffee, cocoa, or wine)

*Your favorite ice cream in a 1/2 cup portion-control bowl.

*Fruit Sorbet

*Homemade ice cream sandwiches

(graham crackers and reduced-fat ice cream)

*Fruit fondue, with dark chocolate

*Brownies or cookies cut in 1in. x 1in. portions

*Baked fruit

*
Pre-portioned mini peanut butter cups (Trader Joe's)

*Recipe resources: Cooking Light(www.cookinglight.com) , Eating Well(www.EatingWell.com), Nubella(www.Nubella.com) Vegetarian Times(www.vegetariantimes.com) Health(www.Health.com)

Remember that the first few bites of any dessert are always the most enjoyable, so if you find yourself faced with a tempting plate, savor a taste and then share with friends.

Bon Appetit!

America's 10 healthiest grocery stores

America's Largest Food & Retail Union Calls on CDC for COVID-19 Vaccine Early Access for Essential Workers in Grocery, Meatpacking, and Food Processing on Frontlines of Pandemic as Infections Skyrocket - The

America's 10 healthiest grocery stores

By Pamela Paul

#1: Whole Foods

279 stores in 38 states and Washington, D.C.

We figured this natural-foods chain would make the list, but who knew it would hands-down top it? “It’s the Rolls Royce of healthy eating,” says Kate Geagan, a nutritionist in Park City, Utah, and one of our judges. Whole Foods has the whole package—from an extraordinary selection of fresh conventional and organic fruit and vegetables to delicious prepared foods with healthy ingredients and clear labeling. (Most other stores offer mystery meals that may very well be loaded with butter.) And Whole Foods puts a premium on products that are grown or produced locally (read: superfresh).

There’s also hard-to-find grass-fed meats, ready-to-cook organic and free-range chicken, and a well-stocked selection of just-caught seafood. The desserts are pretty good for you: Every item in the bakery is free of artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, preservatives, and trans fats. Our judges also raved about Whole Foods’s snacks, singling out the store’s own dark chocolate, fresh-cut veggies, and nut and seed mixes. Alan Greene, MD, a Palo Alto, California–based pediatrician and one of our panelists sums it up best: “The store celebrates great, healthy food from start to finish.”

Health.com: 11 Ways to Pick Out Healthy Food

#2: Safeway

1,700-plus stores nationwide

Safeway is the traditional grocer you’re familiar with, but look closer and you’ll see a huge transformation going on. “They now have their own organic brands and a section of locally grown produce,” says judge Lisa Pawloski, PhD, chair of the department of global and community health at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Besides those organic brands—O Organics for packaged goods (the biggest organic brand in the country) and Eating Right for prepared foods—many of the chain’s redesigned stores have a greatly expanded produce section.

Safeway’s specialty items like organic spices and packaged nuts make it a regular stop for judge Dr. Greene. Bonus: Its online Food Flex program analyzes shoppers’ purchases based on metrics like recommended sodium consumption, and then suggests healthier choices. “They’re a major pioneer in this area,” says panelist Christine Palumbo, a Chicago-based nutritionist. “It’s like having your own registered dietitian.”

Health.com: 10 Best Foods for Your Heart

#3: Harris Teeter

176 stores in the Southeast

This grocer boasts 600 varieties of fruit and veggies, with a good selection of organic and locally grown items, as well as hard-to-find nonfarm-raised seafood. But what catapulted it to third place is its breadth of healthy shopping tools.

Harris Teeter’s YourWellness For Life program, which was originally created to help employees choose the most nutritious foods, became available to customers in 2006. Part of that initiative is shelf tags that clearly show the nutrients in various foods (an “excellent source of fiber” label means the item contains 20% or more of the recommended daily intake; a “good source of fiber” lets you know there’s between 10% and 19% of the RDI). Plus, a Green Thumb Expert at every store gives hints on choosing and preparing produce.

#4: Trader Joe's

300-plus stores in 23 states and Washington, D.C.

Shopping at Trader Joe’s is more like going to a specialty-foods store than a chain grocer—you’ll find healthy foods from around the world, all at surprisingly reasonable prices. What you won’t find: bad-for-you mainstream brands. The store’s impressive and delicious store-brand foods contain no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, and no MSG, trans fats or genetically modified ingredients. “My daughter loves their Omega Trek Mix With Omega-Fortified Cranberries, and now I do, too!” Palumbo says.

Pawloski is just as excited about their organic prepared meals. There are fun healthy surprises, too: instead of sugary cereals, they have good-news alternatives, like fruit-and nut-packed Triple Berry O’s. Why didn’t Trader Joe’s rank higher? The limited selection in most of its stores.

#5: Hannaford

165-plus stores in the Northeast

This chain is relatively small, but Whole Foods should look out$mdash;Hannaford is the largest certified-organic supermarket in the region, and in the past two years it has boosted its produce selection to provide more than 50 local and organic products from 200 farms close by. “It’s an impressive amount of local produce, which is not that easy in temperate New England,” Geagan notes.

But Hannaford’s commitment to healthy foods doesn’t stop there. Its Guiding Stars nutrition-label program makes it a snap to pick out the healthiest fresh and packaged fare: You’ll find one, two, or three stars—with three stars indicating the highest nutritional value—on nearly every item in the store. That means you don’t have to pore over the labels to decide which loaf of bread to buy.

#6: Albertsons

529 stores in the West, owned by SuperValu

Organic food can be expensive, but Albertsons’s house brand, Wild Harvest, typically costs 15% less than name-brand organic products. All Wild Harvest items—including whole wheat pastas, soy milk, cereals, meats, and poultry—eschew artificial preservatives, colorings, sweeteners, and flavorings; hydrogenated and cottonseed oils; and phosphates and chlorine.

Our judges loved the chain’s Healthy Eaters program, which lets kids tour the store with a registered dietitian. And this month, Albertsons introduces the Nutrition iQ program, which uses simple color-coded labels to highlight nutritional benefits.

Health.com: Dr. Oz's Favorite Healthy Foods

#7: Food Lion

1,300 stores in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic

This megachain is owned by the same company as Hannaford and has taken some healthy cues from its smaller sister: It stocks organic fruits and vegetables (though not as many local items as the top chains), has its own natural-foods brand, Nature’s Place, and also uses the Guiding Stars nutrition-labeling system.

But it’s Food Lion’s boutique offshoot, Bloom (61 stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia), that’s leading the way for the entire chain. “Their produce is fresh and smells wonderful,” Pawloski says. Bloom also boasts kiosks that provide nutrition info and healthy recipes that can be printed in-store.

Health.com: 25 Surprisingly Salty Processed Foods

#8: Publix

952 stores in the Southeast

Publix scores high for making healthy eating a family affair. Pregnant moms can sign up for the Publix Baby Club and receive coupons and a newsletter about infants’ developing needs. The Preschool Pals program for 2- to 4-year-olds provides kids with fun free CD-ROMs and emails that teach nutrition and safety. And its free FamilyStyle magazine has simple tips on cooking family dinners fast.

The store’s own brand, GreenWise, features fresh and packaged natural and organic foods. And like Food Lion, Publix has launched an offshoot store that focuses on natural and organic foods—Publix GreenWise Market (currently only in Florida). Our judges also couldn’t stop talking about Publix’s At Season’s Peak program, which points customers to the produce that’s most in season. “It helps shoppers choose food when it’s freshest and most nutritious,” says panelist Frances Largeman-Roth, Health’s senior food and nutrition editor.

Health.com: America's Healthiest Mall Food

#9: Pathmark

141 stores in the Mid-Atlantic

Pathmark doesn’t make a big deal out of its commitment to buying from area farms and producers, but it is in fact the largest retailer of locally grown produce in the Northeast, stocking area finds like Long Island corn on the cob.

It also provides a welcome incentive to eat right: The company’s Live Better! Wellness Club includes discounts of up to 15% on fresh-cut fruit and veggies. And if you never know what the heck to make for dinner, here is a perk you’ll appreciate: You can go online and get creative and healthy menu ideas, courtesy of Pathmark’s resident registered dietitian, Jacqueline Gomes.

Health.com: America's Top 10 Healthiest Fast Food Restaurants

#10: SuperTarget

239 stores in 21 states, primarily Texas and Florida

Tar-jay, a healthy grocer? Yep. These Targets with minimarkets offer good-news brands like Kashi, Quaker, Sahala Snacks, and Barbara’s, plus a limited amount of organic dairy items and produce. And you’ll also find inexpensive, high-quality house brands like Market Pantry (cooking staples, etc.) and the trans fat–free Archer Farms (which includes baked goods, appetizers, and snacks)—and this makes it easier for shoppers to stock up for less.

NBAF 2015 Line Up: Focus on "DANCE"

9586828453?profile=originalhead-NBAF-SEASON-960pxNews: National Black Arts Festival announces 2015 line-up with focus on the art of dance

Step Afrika! will be one of the headliners at this year's National Black Arts Festival.

Step Afrika! will be one of the headliners at this year’s National Black Arts Festival.

From the sacred ring shout to tap, reinvented through funk and hip-hop; from the fiery Cuban Rumba to concert modern dance; from the South African Gumboot dance to Stepping of American black college fraternities, the vibrancy of African dance has resonated as far across the globe as its diaspora.

The art of dance, intensely physical and rhythmically charged — evanescent, but as old as human culture — will take the spotlight during this year’s National Black Arts Festival during a three-month season that begins July 11.

Festival offerings will focus on the artists who have shaped and defined the discipline across a range of dance forms, born of African culture and spanning from the 18th century to today.

A concert series will feature (in chronological order) master tap artist Savion GloverStep Afrika!, based in Washington, D.C.; the revered Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, A Dance Company; and Malpaso Dance Company from Cuba. Conversations and master classes with the artists will surround each concert.

The performance series is nested inside a festival lineup that includes a gala tribute, two art gallery hops and a participatory dance symposium curated by African dance scholar Thomas DeFrantz, featuring an impressive roster of local and internationally regarded scholars and artists who will engage in conversations and demonstrations, capped by an Olympic-style youth poetry slam competition.
